Throughout March
The Octagon Gallery - Jurika Bakane

Jurika was born on June, 27, 1983 in Ludza, Latvia. She now lives in Wisbech. In 2006 she finished studying art at The Academy of Latvia, Department of Painting. She then studied for her Masters at the studio of Prof Kristaps Zarinš in 2008. She has participated in exhibitions since 2000.
She finds inspiration from life, moments, eternity, feelings and dreams. In her current works, lives a primitive and abstract character – who reflects ideas of work. He is a symbol who reflects man’s nothingness in the universe. While this little man is self-contained in expression, he lives and feels happy because he is part of this universe. He is one of us. He is one of us with world in himself and himself in the world.

The Wisbech Players - Fawlty Towers

Fawlty Towers is considered, quite rightly, one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. Set in a 1970s Torquay hotel, Basil Fawlty, the owner of the establishment, is a man of infinite rudeness with a rabid dislike of guests. His wife Sybil seems immune to work and so it's down to poor Polly the waitress to get Basil out of trouble. Meanwhile, Manuel, the hapless Spanish waiter, is just trying to learn a spot of English.
Of the twelve classic episodes written by John Cleese and Connie Booth, three are brought back to life by The Wisbech Players with ‘The Hotel Inspectors’, ‘Communication Problems’ and ‘Basil the Rat’ at the Angles Theatre, Alexandra Road, Wisbech.
Directed by David Brammer the production features Jonathan Sloan as Basil, Carolyn Aldis as Sybil, Jemma Matten as Polly and Mark Fearnley as Manuel supported by a plentiful cast of new and established members. The imaginative set designed and built by George Frost and friends serves to bring the production to a peak of performance.

Venue: The Angles Theatre, Alexandra Road, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, PE13 1HQ
Time: Tues, Wed and Fri 7.30pm, Thurs 8.30pm, Sat 2.30pm and 7.30pm

Kettle's Yard - Tim Head - Raw Material

This exhibition of recent work by Tim Head includes drawings, prints, digital screen works and large-scale projections. It draws together a body of work, produced over the last eight years, that exploits both the current resources of digital technology and the traditional tools of drawing.
A longstanding interest in perception motivates Head’s latest explorations into the various mechanics of production, from physical pen and paper to ethereal digital projections. Focusing on process at both extremes, Head’s work is about visual experience in its ‘raw’ state, detached from the predetermined world of images.

21st March
Wysing Arts Centre - THE LIVING NEWSPAPER

A PERFORMANCE EVENT BY BROWN MOUNTAIN COLLEGE
Brown Mountain College – artist Mel Brimfield, curator Ben Roberts and writer Sally O’Reilly – are reviving the avant-garde ethos of collaboration between artists, actors, filmmakers, political activists and comedians.
In this special performance at Wysing Arts Centre they will echo the fragmentary format of Zhivaia gazeta, or Living Newspaper, which began as a way to bring news stories to the illiterate Red Army soldiers of Soviet Russia and was further developed into full-scale theatrical productions that were part broadsheet, part music hall.
The Brown Mountain edition of The Living Newspaper will follow the original remit; combining public entertainment with the delivery of cultural, political and documentary information, in an event that will in turn inform, engage and provoke.
Comedy improvisation team Grand Theft Impro will present a series of satirical sketches, scenarios and improvisations on notorious and less well-known headlines from current and archaic newspapers. Comedienne Rachel Pantechnicon will deliver a series of monologues in response to readers’ letters to the newspaper’s resident agony aunt. Other events will feature advertisements and the racing pages.
The event is FREE and will begin at 2pm and end at 6pm, although it will be possible to also drop in later in the day, as individual elements of the performance start at 3pm and 4pm. Food will be provided and we are grateful to Potton Brewery for sponsorship of the event with a barrel of real ale.
Please note that this event is aimed at adults.

Throughout April
The Octagon Gallery - Linda Hale

Linda Hale is a mixed media artist. Her artistic interests are of a freestyle nature without commitment to any one technique, medium or subject. She is inspired by a multitude of visual subjects, characters, experiences, travels, and research. Romance and vintage glamour of bygone years totally absorb my imagination. She finds inspiration in everything she sees, and express’s herself in her art using a variety of media - not only paint on calico but a combination of fabric, threads seed pearls and beads - ranging from canvases originals and limited edition prints soft sculpture and craft work. Some of her work covers a fashion illustration theme - currently she is working on "raising the surface" which involves creating texture to her pictures.
