WAODS Announces Its 2012 Production
“The Drowsy Chaperone”

The Drowsy Chaperone is described as ‘a musical within a comedy’ and starred Elaine Paige in the title role when it was performed in the West End in 2007. It is an affectionate pastiche of Broadway in the 1920s Jazz Age; the musical numbers are easy on the ear while the story of the show-within-the-show is both witty and inventive. It is a show sparkling with entertainment, brimming with joyous dance routines, frenetic comedy and a bittersweet core, provided by a vaguely neurotic narrator.

There are lots of fun roles up for grabs, for all ages, and help backstage is always welcome too.
Dates to put in your diaries:
Tues 7 February, 7.30pm – 1st read through
Tues 14 Feb, 7.30pm – 2nd read through
Sun 19 Feb 10.30am – 6pm – auditions
all at Gorefield Village Hall.

For more information please call Barbara on 01945 587982 or email barbara.mews@hotmail.org.uk or check out the Society’s page on Facebook or visit its website at www.waods.org.uk.

Artists' Studios

We have a number of purpose built studios available for visual artists and creative initiatives; graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, artists' collectives and architects, to occupy on a subsidised or partly subsidised basis for up to five years.

Also available is our unique live/work space, available from one to six months. Additionally we are seeking a live-in artist to undertake caretaking duties. Deadline for studio applications is 6 February 2012. Deadline for Caretaker opportunity, 17 February. Full details HERE.

OPEN CALL FOR 2012 RESIDENCY PROGRAMME

Wysing Arts Centre invites applications for twelve six-week long artists’ residencies. The residencies are grouped into three ‘environments’ which take three metaphors as their starting points: The Cosmos, exploring the past/origins/knowledge; The Mirror, exploring the present/reflective/commentary; and The Forest, exploring the future/a return to nature/transformation. Four artists will be selected to work, at the same time, within each environment.

All three environments are influenced by literary references to other worlds and the merging of fact and fiction, in particular the writings of JG Ballard, Jorge Luis Borges, Michel Foucault, WG Sebald and Kurt Vonnegut. It is expected that resident artists will contribute to ongoing group discussions around literary and philosophical references and be prepared to take part in public discussions on their work and ideas in relation to the environments. The residency timeframes are:
The Cosmos, 1 April-11 May 2012
The Mirror, 15 July – 24 August 2012
The Forest, 4 November – 16 December 2012

See HERE for more information and details on how to apply. Application deadline: Friday 17 February 2012, 5pm.
